On March 24, 2026, in Istanbul, authorities detained numerous people during home raids conducted on the grounds that they had participated in Newroz celebrations. Police detained at least 38 people, including children, on charges of “organization propaganda.” Special operations police who participated in the raids pointed guns at people in some homes, ransacked the premises, and threatened the residents. It was reported that N.E., a minor under the age of 18 who was detained, sustained a head injury as a result of torture and was later released by the prosecutor’s office.
