Following the appointment of a trustee to TELE1, the news report by TELE2, which was established afterwards, regarding allegations of incompetent appointments at Anadolu Agency was blocked on the grounds of “protecting national security and public order.”
TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ was arrested on October 27 along with Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and İmamoğlu’s campaign director Necati Özkan as part of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office’s “espionage” investigation. On October 24, when Yanardağ was detained, the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund appointed a trustee to TELE1, and a day after the announcement, a group of journalists at TELE1 resigned en masse.
Some of the resigning team members announced “Tele2 News.”
The Freedom of Expression Association (İFÖD) announced that Tele2’s news story titled “Unmerited promotions at AA drove employees crazy” had been blocked. The decision was made on the grounds of “protecting national security and public order.”
