One of the six students arrested for protesting an event organized by theologian Nureddin Yıldız at Boğaziçi University was released.
Yıldız, known for his statements legitimizing child marriage, was invited to speak at an event organized by Boğaziçi University’s Islamic Studies Club titled “Islamic Sciences: For whom, how much?” organized by Boğaziçi University Islamic Studies Club. Upon this invitation, students gathered at the North Campus and organized a protest with the slogan “Nurettin Yıldız, get out of my university!”.
The police intervened harshly against the students on campus and 97 people were detained. 15 of the detainees were referred to the court for arrest. 6 students were arrested, while 9 students were released on judicial control.
In the first statement made on the social media account of the university students, it was stated that six students were evacuated, but it was later confirmed that only one student was evacuated.
