The 31st Bakırköy Criminal Court sentenced the detained Kıymet Ilgaz to one year in prison on the grounds that she possessed a book by Abdullah Öcalan in prison. The prosecution had previously decided not to pursue charges, noting that there was no existing order to seize or ban the book. The Istanbul Police Department also informed the court that the book was not banned. Despite this, the court convicted Ilgaz of the charge of smuggling prohibited items into a prison. The appellate court upheld the decision.
