Six neighborhood residents, two of them women, were detained in Bozlu neighborhood of Hatay’s Defne district after they protested against a quarry that resumed operations despite a court order to suspend its operation. While the women were released the same day, four male citizens were referred to court. Antakya Environmental Protection Association stated that the quarry damages agricultural lands and water sources and violates the people’s right to life. It was stated that the company changed its name and continued to operate, and protesters were threatened and blockaded by the gendarmerie.
