In Sakarya, two farmers who could not sell their watermelons to wholesalers threw their produce on the ground and smashed it. After the footage spread on social media, the Ministry of Trade launched an investigation. Under Law No. 5957, farmers could be fined up to 17 million 200 thousand TL per person. The Ministry stated that product waste and market-distorting behaviors will not be tolerated.
