Following the MESEM protest at the Turkey Century Vocational and Technical Education Summit attended by Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, 16 of the 17 TİP students who were detained were arrested by the Bakırköy Criminal Court of Peace. The students had been detained yesterday for protesting the deaths of child workers in MESEMs. TİP spokesperson Sera Kadıgil said in a statement in front of the courthouse that the prosecutor requested mass detention without taking statements and that the students were even accused on the grounds that “red paint was spilled.” The court released one student under judicial control. In the same protest, four members of the Private Teachers’ Union were also detained in handcuffs.
