Retired fighter pilot and human rights defender Bahadır Altan was detained over a social media post in which he called on the opposition to wage a joint struggle. The İzmir Branch of the Human Rights Association (İHD) criticized the detention of Altan, one of its former executives. The association said Altan’s defense of press freedom and human rights and his call for democratic struggle did not constitute a crime. Emphasizing that the detention was an intervention against freedom of expression and the right to democratic dissent, İHD called for Altan’s immediate release.
