Official advertisements provided to T24 by the Press Advertisement Agency (BİK) were also cut off after a court blocked access to the outlet’s website and social media accounts. T24 General Coordinator Sertuğ Çiçek said at the Independent Journalism Conference organized by the Turkish Journalists’ Association that the advertisements were cut off immediately after the access block. Çiçek argued that the decisions aimed to sever the connection between journalists and readers and said they expected a positive result from their application to the Constitutional Court. Istanbul 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace had blocked access to T24’s website and social media accounts on 30 September on the allegation that 118 items it published in the previous year constituted “LGBT propaganda.”
