The Interior Ministry suspended Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş from office. Istanbul’s 4th Criminal Judgeship of Peace arrested Dedetaş on 31 July on charges of “forming an organization to commit crimes, bribery and extortion.” The Interior Ministry said Dedetaş was temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure under Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law. Police detained six people in an operation on 29 July. The court arrested four people, including Dedetaş, and released two under judicial control.
