Judicial proceedings were completed for 16 people detained in the investigation into Menderes Municipality, including Mayor İlkay Çiçek. A criminal judgeship of peace arrested 10 people, including Çiçek, and released six under judicial control. Prosecutors accused the suspects of “forming an organization to commit crimes,” “membership in a criminal organization,” “bribery,” “extortion,” “forgery of official documents,” “misconduct in office” and “causing zoning pollution.” Çiçek’s lawyer, Atalay Aksay, said they would appeal the arrest decision.
