On May 21, the 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Appeal ruled to annul the CHP’s 38th Ordinary Congress held in 2023 and subsequent congresses on the grounds of absolute nullity. The court provisionally removed CHP General Chairman Özgür Özel and the party leadership from their posts and ordered the reinstatement of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s leadership. The chamber cited allegations that delegates were offered money, jobs, and candidacy during the congress process as grounds for its decision. The path to appeal to the Supreme Court remains open.
