In a report published on April 2, 2026, the DFG announced that the number of detained journalists in Turkey had risen to 31 in March. According to the report, 5 journalists were detained, 2 journalists were arrested, and access to 53 social media accounts and 75 pieces of content was blocked. Security forces obstructed journalists’ reporting in many instances, and the report emphasized that the “disinformation law” is exerting pressure on journalistic activities.
