On March 23, 2026, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office sought a prison sentence of up to 35 years against Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney as part of a corruption investigation. The prosecution charged Güney with aiding an organized crime group and fraud to the detriment of the public. Similar sentences were sought in the same case for some individuals in Güney’s inner circle. Güney, who has been in custody since August 19, 2025, denied all charges.
