Following attacks by forces affiliated with the Damascus regime on Rojava, at least 37 children were detained in house raids during protests held in Şırnak between January 8 and 27, 2026. Twelve children aged 15-17 were arrested and sent to the Hatay Children and Youth Prison, approximately 675-700 kilometers away from their families. Azat Bayram, a lawyer from the Lawyers for Freedom Association, said that the children were deprived of sleep while in custody, subjected to nighttime interrogations, and denied access to lawyers. Bayram stated that there was no concrete evidence in the children’s files and that they were detained based on unlawful interrogations.
