Journalist Furkan Karabay was detained late at night as part of an investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Karabay was held at the Vatan Police Headquarters on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information” and then transferred to the Istanbul Courthouse. Karabay stated in his testimony to the prosecutor’s office that his posts were part of his journalistic activities and denied the charges. The prosecutor’s office requested his arrest, but the court ruled for house arrest. Reporters Without Borders stated that the detention and judicial control decision were incompatible with press freedom.
