Kocaeli University launched a disciplinary investigation on December 19 into journalism student Abbas Vural, who claimed he was assaulted and verbally abused by a security guard. Following an incident that occurred during a club promotion stand at the School of Foreign Languages on December 10, the university administration called Vural to defend himself against allegations of making unauthorized video recordings, putting up unauthorized posters, conducting unauthorized commercial activities, and disrupting education. Vural denied the allegations and said he was being punished for not remaining silent about the violence he was subjected to. Vural’s lawyer, Elif Yetigin, stated that the investigation into the victimized student was unlawful and that the proceedings should be canceled.
