In 2018, journalist Ozan Kaplanoğlu was sentenced to one year, ten months, and fifteen days in prison for reporting on a press statement made in Bursa against the Afrin Operation. The sentence has now been finalized. Hasan Özaydın, then the Bursa Provincial Chairman of the Labor Party, was arrested over the statement, while Kaplanoğlu was detained for five days. The 10th Heavy Penal Court convicted Kaplanoğlu on charges of “organization propaganda,” while Özaydın was acquitted. With the completion of the appeal process, the sentence was upheld, and Kaplanoğlu will be sent to prison.
