Journalist Ali Barış Kurt’s release was postponed for six months by the Prison Administration and Observation Board on the grounds that he was “not remorseful.” The two-year and four-month sentence imposed for his professional activities and social media posts was upheld by the Court of Cassation, and Kurt was sent to Maltepe No. 1 L-Type Prison on February 8, 2025. In a statement made through his family, Kurt said that despite not having a disciplinary penalty, his probation was arbitrarily blocked, adding, “We will continue to defend journalism and truth under all circumstances.”
