The Ankara Regional Court of Appeals Prosecutor’s Office appealed the acquittal decisions issued for journalists Habibe Eren, Ceylan Şahinli, and Mehmet Günhan. The prosecutor filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, characterizing their professional activities as “organizational ties.” The petition used the terms “so-called journalists,” “so-called news,” and “institutions producing news on the instructions of the organization” for journalists and agencies.
The prosecutor’s office described the Newroz and March 8 news as “propaganda activities” and defined the Mezopotamya Agency and JINNEWS as “the media arm of the organization.” It was stated that the appeal was based on the statements of confidential witnesses. The three journalists were arrested in 2022, released in 2023, and acquitted in 2024.
