The Van Bar Association stated in its announcement regarding the arrest of family members and citizens by law enforcement officers using handcuffs at the Van Courthouse, “The prohibition of torture has been violated at the courthouse.” Following an interrogation at the Criminal Court of Peace on October 31, 2025, a scuffle broke out in which the relatives of a detained person and citizens who intervened in the incident were subjected to physical violence by the police. In its statement, the Van Bar Association stated that the incident at the courthouse was a clear violation of the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment, saying, “We will not normalize the ongoing violence in the courthouse corridors. We will file a criminal complaint against those responsible.” The Bar Association announced that it would follow the process to ensure that the incident is investigated in all its dimensions and that those responsible are brought to justice.
