Following a complaint filed by the Ministry of Family and Social Services, an investigation was launched against BirGün editor İlayda Kaya for her articles titled “The state failed to protect both: Woman murdered, child missing” and “You failed to protect a child.” Kaya testified at the Istanbul Courthouse on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information,” “insulting state institutions,” and “violating the privacy of private life.” In her defense, Kaya stated that the articles were in the public interest, consistent with visible reality, and published within the scope of journalistic activity.
