Residents of Kurtdere neighborhood in Hatay’s Samandağ district have been holding a vigil since September 2 to object to the TOKİ’s decision to expropriate the Kurtdere neighborhood. On the morning of October 16, construction equipment entered the area again, accompanied by police. İlayda Çekiç and Tuncay Yılmaz were detained when they tried to stop the diggers. The people of the neighborhood stated that they are waging both a legal and de facto struggle to protect their deeded lands and called on the public to stand in solidarity.
