Following the appointment of a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Directorate, the police blockade of the provincial building sparked reactions. As citizens flocked to the provincial building, social media posts were also targeted by the police.
The General Directorate of Security announced that 103 social media accounts, 16 of which originated from abroad, were analyzed. It was claimed that “provocative and disinformation” posts were made on these accounts.
According to the statement, proceedings were initiated against 39 people and 10 people were detained. Procedures against other suspects are ongoing.
The police announced that efforts to identify and take action against similar posts will “continue with determination”.
