CHP’s congress scheduled to be held in Ataşehir was suspended by the District Election Board citing an injunction issued by the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance.

Following the decision, the 39th Ordinary District Congresses in Esenyurt and Sarıyer were also prevented. District Election Boards announced that the congresses could not be held on September 13-14, stating that the court had suspended the Istanbul provincial and district congress processes as a precautionary measure.

Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance dismissed the administration elected at the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress held on October 8, 2023, and suspended the provincial and district elections as part of the process.

In addition, Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against 10 people, including suspended Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik, Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney and former Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, on charges of “rigging the vote”. The case will be heard on January 6th.
