CHP Deputy Chairman Retired Rear Admiral Yankı Bağcıoğlu made striking statements regarding the deaths of two privates at the İskenderun Naval Recruit Training Regiment due to excessive dehydration.
Bağcıoğlu stated that the soldiers were made to stand at attention in the sun for four hours as punishment for the desertion of two other privates, and that they were not allowed to drink water during this period.
As a result of this practice, the soldiers fainted and the intervention was delayed.
The Ministry of National Defense announced that the administrative investigation into the incident is ongoing and forensic medical reports are awaited.
Bağcıoğlu demanded an explanation of why the soldiers were kept waiting, whether there was access to water and the timeline of medical intervention in order to ease the public conscience.
