Tension erupted in the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey during the discussion of an omnibus bill opening olive groves to mining. CHP and DEM Party MPs occupied the rostrum with the slogan “Don’t touch my air, water and soil”.
When DEM Party Mersin MP Perihan Koca took video footage with her cell phone, AKP member Ruken Kilerci physically intervened against her. Koca, who made a statement on social media after the incident, said that AKP MPs were trying to pass the law through bullying.
The first 18 articles of the proposal to regulate olive groves have been approved by the Parliament.
