Haber Global reporter Azra Sözcü and cameraman Alperen Ulukuş were attacked while covering an incident involving a construction equipment explosion in Güngören Sanayi neighborhood in the morning. The journalists were beaten by T.A. (39) and E.Ö.G. (29), the brother of the owner of the workplace, and recorded the attack. The attackers were detained in a short time. Judicial proceedings were initiated against them for “intentional injury and insult”.
The Board of Directors of the Turkish Journalists Association (TGC) issued a statement condemning the attack. The statement read, “Journalism is not a crime. But attacking journalists is a crime” and called on the Governorate of Istanbul to take office. TGC also emphasized that they stand in solidarity with all their colleagues.
