Struggle Union reporter Lütfiye Burcu Kara, who was on trial for “membership in an armed organization”, was acquitted by Izmir 2nd Assize Court on the grounds of lack of evidence. In the previous hearing, the prosecution had requested Kara’s acquittal on the grounds that her journalistic activities did not constitute a criminal offense. Witness statements were not deemed sufficient as they could not be supported by concrete evidence. Kara was arrested in a raid in 2024 and released in February 2025.
