T24 reporter Can Öztürk, who was detained while covering the protest at Boğaziçi University, was taken to the courthouse.

Öztürk was covering a protest organized by students against the invitation of Nurettin Yıldız, the head of the Social Doku Foundation, when he was intervened by the police. According to T24, despite stating that he was a journalist, police officers choked him, tore his press card and detained him in handcuffs behind his back.

Öztürk was taken to Eyüp State Hospital for a health check. He was then taken to the police station and then to the courthouse.

Students had protested against the invitation of Nurettin Yıldız, who drew reaction with his statements on child marriage, to Boğaziçi University’s Islamic Studies Club. During the protests, Can Öztürk was subjected to intervention along with the students who were blockaded on campus.
