Four students were arrested after protesting an event organized by theologian Nureddin Yıldız at Boğaziçi University.
On May 13, students protested against Yıldız’s speech at an event titled “Islamic Sciences: For Whom, How Much?” on May 13, students reacted against Yıldız’s participation in the event and a brawl broke out with the police intervention. A total of 97 people were detained during the clashes, 82 of whom were released after their statements.
Today, 15 of the detainees were taken to Istanbul Courthouse. Of the 8 people brought to court on charges of “resisting to prevent the execution of duty”, 4 were arrested, while 4 were released on judicial control conditions. The interrogation of the other 7 people has not started yet.
The protests were sparked by Yıldız’s past statements on child marriage.
