Protest demonstrations were organized in many provinces in Turkey due to November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The demonstration organized in Istanbul with the participation of hundreds of women was intervened by the police due to “lack of permission by the Governorate.” Women attempting to march towards Galatasaray Square were intervened with police shields and tear gas. The demonstration organized in Kadıköy was prevented due to “lack of permission” as well.
According to the data announced by the Ministry of the Interior on November 2, 133,809 women were exposed to violence in 2017 and 96,417 in the first seven months of 2018. According to the data compiled by We Will Stop Femicides Platform, the number of murdered women in 2018 is 337.
