The March 27th World Theatre Day March, organized for the past three years in collaboration of Kadıköy Theatres Platform with Kadıköy Municipality, was banned by the local administration this year. Kadıköy District Governorate based the ban on “the event area not being within the meeting and demonstration areas determined by Istanbul Governorate” as well as the “possibility of negatively influencing pedestrian traffic” and “the possibility that it may prevent natural flow of trade life.” In the meeting held after the request of the platform, it was verbally stated that the march “may create a security issue soon before the elections.”
