Ministry of the Interior assigned trustees to Batman, Silvan, Lice and Ergani municipalities; the Co-Mayors were arrested. As the municipality buildings were taken under police blockade in the early morning, Batman Co-Mayors Mehmet Demir and Songül Korkmaz, Silvan Co-Mayor Naşide Toprak, Eğil Co-Mayor Mustafa Akkul and Ergani Co-Mayor Ahmet Kaya were detained with house raids. The number of People’s Democratic Party (HDP) municipalities under trustee administration reached 37 since the local elections in March 2019.
