The Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) was appointed trustee to Halk TV on 14 October as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into the channel’s owner, Cafer Mahiroğlu, and the television station’s regular broadcasts were halted. Police searched the channel’s headquarters in Istanbul’s Zeytinburnu district. Halk TV Editor-in-Chief Suat Toktaş asked the trustee administration to allow live broadcasts to continue, but the request was rejected. Channel employees said they were prevented from entering the building. The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said trustees had also been appointed to Mahiroğlu’s other companies, detention orders had been issued for 17 people and 11 had been detained. Mahiroğlu, who was abroad, denied allegations based on a MASAK report and said seven members of his family, including his 70-year-old brother living in Sivas, had been detained. An arrest warrant had previously been issued for Mahiroğlu on 11 June 2025 on a charge of “bid rigging” based on statements by businessperson Aziz İhsan Aktaş.
