The Workers’ Party of Turkey announced that Elif Önder, a member of its Niğde Provincial Organisation, was detained over an anti-NATO social media post and was arrested by the Niğde Criminal Peace Judgeship on the charge of “threatening with the aim of creating fear and panic among the public.” The party said that expressing anti-NATO views did not constitute a crime and called for the release of Elif Önder and others arrested within the scope of the NATO investigations.
