The application made at Turkey Human Rights and Equality Institution (TIHEK) on two transgender women not permitted inside Ankara Cinnah Hotel was denied due to “gender identity not being a reason for discrimination.” Pink Life LGBT Solidarity Association had made the application at the Institution, indicating that the incident constitutes a crime within the “principle of equality and the discrimination ban.” However, TIHEK claimed that notions like race, skin colour, language, religion, faith, sect, political or philosophical opinion and sexuality constitute bases for discrimination and that discrimination based on gender identity is not included in this scope.
