The Adana Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office filed a case against three people who took part in protests against the detention and arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu, while issuing a decision of non-prosecution for 22 others in the same investigation. Prosecutors charged Emin Alper K., Umutcan U. and Yaşar O. with “resisting to prevent the performance of a duty” and violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations, and sent the file to Adana 41st Criminal Court of First Instance. Those for whom no prosecution was pursued included Labor Party executive Halil İmrek, SYKP executive Eser Çapar and lawyer Sergen Nisanoğlu, a member of the Contemporary Lawyers Association. The investigation covered protests held in Adana on 20, 23 and 25 March 2025. Police set up barricades along march routes and blocked demonstrators during the protests, and intervened against the dispersing crowd after the 23 March protest. In its decision not to prosecute 22 people, the prosecutor’s office said the actions remained within the right to peaceful assembly and demonstration and that pushing through a police barricade and continuing to march while chanting slogans did not by itself constitute the offense of resisting police.
