Van Muradiye Co-Mayor Yılmaz Şalan and Özalp Co-Mayors Dilan Örenci and Yakup Almaç of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) were arrested after being detained during house raids on December 6th. Muradiye Co-Mayor Leyla Balkan and Başkale Co-Mayor Erkan Acar were released with judicial measures. The Co-Mayors were charged with “terrorist organisation membership” and “making terrorist organisation propaganda.” Thus, the number of arrested co-mayors since the elections on March 31st reached 20.
