The eighth hearing of the case against journalist Sedef Kabaş for “insulting the President” due to a total of 25 social media posts was held at the Istanbul Anadolu 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.

After the identification process, President Erdoğan’s lawyer Mehmet İnal stated, “We demand that the defendant be punished.”

Kabaş’s lawyer, Selen Sınmaz, referred to the European Court of Human Rights’ Vedat Şorli ruling and argued that the case should result in an immediate acquittal or dismissal.

The court stated that the case was connected to cases heard at the Istanbul 36th Criminal Court of First Instance and the Istanbul Anatolia 7th Criminal Court of First Instance and decided to wait for the verdicts in those cases to become final.

The hearing was postponed to February 5, 2026, at 10:20 a.m.
