Non-commissioned officers Ozan Karataş and Osman Bilgi, who were on trial for falsifying an expert report in the investigation into the suspicious death of Dorukhan Büyükışık in Izmir in 2018, were acquitted. The prosecutor had requested punishment for the two gendarmes. According to T24, during the trial, then Gendarmerie General Commander Arif Çetin gave the defendants certificates of appreciation for their “successful work”. The documents signed by Çetin praised their “self-sacrificing work” for their contributions in preparing reports and examining evidence. Büyükışık’s death was initially recorded as “suicide”, but the prosecutor’s office reopened the case and filed a lawsuit against five people for life imprisonment for “intentional killing”.
