A six-member foreign delegation that came to Turkey to investigate rights violations in dungeon-like prisons was detained in Istanbul on February 19, 2026, and deported with “restrictions” placed on their passports. The delegation included a lawyer, two journalists, two academics, and a political party representative. Naim Eminoğlu, President of the Istanbul Branch of the Contemporary Lawyers Association, said the delegation was detained after meeting with the People’s Law Office. It was alleged that one of the delegation members was beaten for refusing to sign the deportation papers.
