An investigation was opened against news published online on T24 and Diken between the years 2014 and 2016 regarding Twitter posts of Fuat Avni. The investigation was opened due to “aiding and abetting an illegal organisation without membership.” Summoned to testify within the investigation, news website editors and executives were asked who ordered them to publish the 108 news articles from the posted tweets. The news were asserted to have “created a negative perception operation against the Turkish government.” Many websites, publishing news on related tweets, were also taken under investigation.
