Zonguldak Democracy Platform made a press statement at the Madenci Monument on the 32nd anniversary of the Sivas Massacre. During the statement, there was a short tension between the platform members and the police.

Speaking on behalf of the platform, Erdoğan Kaymakçı said “We have not forgotten, we will not forget, we will not let them forget” and emphasized that those responsible for the massacre remain unpunished. Kaymakçı stated that the Sivas Massacre was not only a crime against humanity, but also an attack against the ideal of a multicultural Turkey.

The perpetrators of Sivas are protected, forgiven and politically rewarded, the statement said. The fact that the Madımak Hotel has still not been turned into a museum of shame was shown as a symbol of the state’s avoidance of confrontation.

The Zonguldak Democracy Platform emphasized that they stand against the forgetting of this memory: “Forgetting leads to the next massacre. Today we are still struggling against the darkness. Light will win.”

The event ended without incident after the press statement.
