The hall assignment of theatre play, “Azizname,” to be staged on April 27th at Kadir Has Cultural Center in Kayseri, was cancelled. Cumhuriyet Stage announced the cancellation on the social media and reacted against Kayseri Mayor Memduh Büyükkılıç. “We wish that the first activity of the new Kayseri Mayor, elected in the March 31 elections to serve the people of Kayseri, was not to cancel the hall assignment of our play. Our apologies to all theater-lovers in Kayseri,” the statement wrote.
The play, written by Aziz Nesin, was previously banned by Sakarya Municipality on January 20 due to the reactions of Cumhuriyet Stage actors and actresses against the detainment of Metin Akpınar and Müjdat Gezen.
