Mayor Mustafa Turgut was arrested as part of an investigation into Silifke Municipality covering bribery, extortion, bid-rigging and abuse of office. The court also ordered the arrest of several other suspects, including Deputy Mayors Şerife Yörükçü and Ezgi Erdağ Demirtaş and Silifke Belediyespor Club President Sait Oğuz.
