Seven of nine people detained in the second wave of the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office investigation into Menderes Municipality were arrested. Two people, including former Deputy Mayor Erkan Özkan, were released under judicial control. The investigation was conducted on charges of “aiding an organization established for the purpose of committing crimes,” “bribery” and “extortion by a public official.” Eleven people, including Mayor İlkay Çiçek, had previously been arrested in the same investigation.
