Former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly member and lawyer Doğan Erbaş was released on judicial control conditions in the lawsuit filed against him due to “illegal organization membership”.
Erbaş, who attended the hearing via SEGBİS from Sincan T Type Prison, stated that he was arrested due to his political activities and demanded his acquittal. The court ruled for Erbaş’s release despite the prosecution’s opinion for continuation of detention and adjourned the hearing to October 23, 2025.
Erbaş was detained and arrested on June 13, 2023 in Ankara due to a finalized 12-year prison sentence. After the Court of Cassation overturned the verdict, the case was retried.
He is expected to be released in a few days with the completion of the offsetting procedures as part of the execution of his sentence of 1 year, 21 months and 22 days for “making propaganda for an illegal organization”.
