The Higher Electoral Council (YSK) decided for election certificates not to be given to elected candidates with emergency decrees against them, despite having accepted their application for candidacy and approving that they have the right qualifications to be elected.

With the decision, YSK will hand the election certificates to candidates of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) instead of candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), winning the elections with 70.34% in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, 52.93% in Tuşba district of Van, 53.81% in Edremit district of Van, 53% in Çaldıran district of Van and 54.25% in Dağpınar district of Kars. Thus, trustees were effectively assigned to the municipalities through YSK.

Following the decision, Van Governorate banned all meetings, demonstrations, press statements etc. across the province for seven days. The municipality building was taken under police blockade before the press statement to be organized by HDP MPs and Co-Mayors to react against the YSK decree in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır.
