The proceeding of lawyer Veysel Ok continued at Istanbul 37th Criminal Court of First Instance with the charge of “denigrating governmental institutions” at the interview he gave on 25 December 2015 to Özgür Düşünce [Free Thought] Newspaper.
In the interview, Ok had stated that courts are not independent and unbiased, leading to consecutive imprisonment of journalists. Immediately after the interview, a lawsuit was filed against Ok and the newspaper’s reporter Cihan Acar following the criminal complaint of President Erdoğan with an imprisonment claim for up to two years in accordance with Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK).
